Since 1969 Vance-Granville Community College has been a major factor in the economic life in the area,
providing a variety of educational opportunities to men and women, young and old.
And during that time, the college has become a key player in economic development training in the four counties it serves:
Granville, Vance, Warren and Franklin
Its Main Campus is located on an 83-acre tract in Vance County midway between Oxford and Henderson, off Interstate 85.
Complemented by a picturesque lake and attractive landscaping, the site currently boasts eight permanent buildings that include a student services complex, civic center and daycare unit.
Along with administrative and faculty offices, auditorium, student lounge and learning resources center, these facilities provide 36 classrooms, 10 shops and 20 labs in which students may train in 35-plus curriculum programs, as well as extension, economic development, continuing education, and small business classes. Also, construction of a new 52,000 square-foot classroom building is underway, this to be completed by the end of 2003.
The structure will house technology classrooms, Small Business Center, literacy and occupational extension classes.
Vance-Granville also maintains three satellite campuses: South Campus,
located between Butner and Creedmoor in Granville County; Warren County Campus, which operates in downtown Warrenton;
and Franklin County Campus, situated on Highway 56 outside Louisburg.
Situated on an 11-acred tract, South Campus is a single-story, semicircular structure that houses classrooms,
shops/labs, offices and a reception area. In 2000, an 8,050 square-foot addition was constructed to provide space for an expanded cosmetology department,
computer lab and EMS/Public Service classroom.
In addition, the Granville County Library South Branch occupies one section of the complex.
Operating in three one-story brick buildings totaling more than 14,000 square feet,
Warren County Campus encompasses general classrooms, an ABE/GED learning/testing center, labs, multi-purpose shop,
reception areas and offices.
Franklin County Campus, located on a scenic 22-acre site, consists of a two-building,
34,000 square-foot complex with general classrooms, vocational, computer and science labs,
a childcare center, computer and conference room, book store, and faculty and administrative offices,
in addition to other skills training areas. In the spring of 2001,
a new biotechnology lab and classroom building were added along with a multipurpose building.
The combined value of Vance-Granville’s four campuses currently exceeds $36 million.
That figure is expected to increase in the next few years as construction and renovation plans are completed at each of the VGCC campus.
Also, in recent years, Vance-Granville has enjoyed significant growth in its enrollment.
During 2001-2002, the College served more than 16,500 students,
or one out of every seven eligible adults residing within its service area.
In addition, community support has pushed the VGCC Endowment Fund to nearly $5 million.
By the end of 2003, the College expects to reach another milestone, anticipating approval of its third reaffirmation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
With such a groundswell of accomplishments already to its credit, Vance-Granville looks forward to the future with optimism and confidence in successfully serving the educational needs of area citizens.
