Granville County Schools

Granville County schools serve 8968 students and consistently perform well in all areas. Six high schools, three middle schools, one intermediate and eight elementary schools provide excellent educational opportunities for our children. The Granville County system performs well above the level of neighboring rural counties. The teacher turnover rate is also lower in Granville County than in other systems. Improvement throughout the system is evident each year with high goals set by Superintendent Tim Farley and the entire staff.

Higher Education

Vance Granville Community College offers a variety of associate degrees and continuing education programs.

Housing

Quality housing is available with new single-family residential subdivisions underway in many areas. New apartments are available with units with one to three bedrooms.

Healthcare

Granville Health System is an excellent healthcare organization that consists of six facilities: Granville Medical Center, Brantwood Nursing Center, Harold Sherman Adult Day Center, Granville Specialty Clinics, Granville Surgical Associates, and South Granville Medical Center in Creedmoor. For emergencies, a helicopter can transport patients to Duke University Medical Center in just a few minutes from the pad at Granville Medical Center. Duke University Medical Center is a world-renowned facility with the finest medical care available in the world. It is located in Durham with easy access via 1-85.

Shopping

Oxford and Creedmoor offer good shopping opportunities for most items. However, there are numerous malls located in Durham and Raleigh with a selection unequalled in many urban areas.

Entertainment and Recreation

Entertainment is abundant in the area in many forms. Three major universities provide the finest in collegiate sports. The Atlantic Coast Conference basketball program is number one in the entire country. The RBC Center and the Alltel Pavilion feature concerts by leading musicians throughout the year. The RBC Center is home to the NHL Carolina Hurricanes who played for the Stanley Cup in 2002. Class A baseball is available with the Durham Bulls.

Golf courses are abundant in the region with world famous Pinehurst within an easy drive. The US Open will return to Pinehurst #2 in 2005 for the second time in ten years.

Falls Lake and Kerr Lake, along with others, provide convenient opportunities for fishing, swimming, camping, picnicking and boating. Falls Lake borders Granville County on the southern side and Kerr Lake borders the county on the northern side with Virginia. Both lakes are easily accessed from 1-85.
